How to plan for retirement

We all want our dream retirement. Only problem is, that dream is different for everyone. So, how do you achieve that retirement? Planning. And a visit to one of our financial advisors registered through CUSO Financial Services, L.P. located at Oregon State Credit Union.*

When you’re ready to get your plan under way, call 800-732-0173. We’ll set up a time for you to meet with one of our financial advisors and get your investment portfolio on track. In the meantime, below are some great places to start with your investment portfolio.

Retirement age: The first thing to consider when planning for retirement is when you plan to retire. If you want to retire at 50 versus 72, you’ll need a lot more money.

Life expectancy: How long you live also affects how much you’ll need at retirement. You can follow statistics and take a guess, but remember some people live to be 100 or more. Plan ahead for the possibility, and you’ll be covered either way.

Health care: The cost of health care keeps going up. Factoring a rate of inflation and cost increase into your budget will help keep your retirement happy.

Lifestyle: It might seem obvious to you, but lifestyle is not something people think about when planning for retirement. If you are used to eating out every night, then you’re likely to do it at retirement too. Be realistic and make a plan that keeps costs down while allowing you to enjoy life.
