Financial Empowerment Award for Oregon State Credit Union signals encouraging momentum for financial equity and inclusion

Corvallis, OR – Oregon State Credit Union is the recipient of the Oregon State Treasury Financial Empowerment Community Champion Award.

This is the first year for the award, with a special category going to an organization, association, business, or education enterprise that is making a positive difference when it comes to improving financial wellness and empowerment for Oregonians.

“On behalf of our over 132,000 member-owners and community education partners, we are humbled to receive the inaugural Oregon State Treasury Financial Empowerment Community Champion Award. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, Oregon State Credit Union emphasizes education as a core value. We recognize that financial literacy is essential to financial equity and inclusion, and we will continue to provide financial education as a sustaining resource to our communities. Thank you for this honor,” said Richard S. Hein, President/CEO.

The Treasury’s desire to “help more people be prepared to navigate our complex financial system” dovetails well with the credit union’s longstanding commitment to financial literacy. The credit union demonstrates this commitment through a variety of contributions including one-on-one member financial education; funding a full-time community financial education director; annual financial literacy activities for youth and parents; online financial education; Train-the-Trainer programs with community education partners and publication of the free Mindful Money Management workbook for teens and young adults available in English and Spanish.

Oregon State Credit Union will be donating their $2,000 cash award in addition to the $500 Pay it Forward award distributed among their community education partners to be announced.

Oregon State Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit credit union. Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in 24 western and central Oregon counties.
